Eschenheimer Turm | Eschenheim Tower

Here´s a watercolour illustration about Frankfurt again, waiting to be printed as a greeting card and on fabric to become a tote bag. 😊 The Eschenheim Tower was built at the beginning of the 15th century and it´s the oldest building downtown Frankfurt. Frankfurt downtown got completely destroyed in WW II, that´s why there are not many old buildings left. Before the war Frankfurt had one of the best preserved medieval town centers in Germany. It´s so sad that it all got destroyed, I think. But there were worse things happening during WW II than destroyed houses.

The Eschenheim Tower served as a town gate and checkpoint and was part of the surrounding wall. It´s not the only town gate still standing, but it´s the only downtown.
